The Phases of the Laser Treatments
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment inside the hair follicle without damaging delicate pores and structures of the skin. Because hair cycles through "growth" and "dormant" phases, and because during the "dormant" phase the follicle has no pigment, at least 2 or 3 treatments will be needed. We recommend a series of three to six treatments.
Depending on the amount of hair treated, the procedure varies from patient to patient. Generally the treatment will include:
Safety eyewear to protect the patient's eyes during the procedure from the intense laser light.
A small hand piece will be used with a probe that touches the skin to deliver the laser light. A light spray of coolant onto the skin will be felt just before each laser pulse.
Most patients experience little discomfort at the treatment site because of the dynamic cooling device.
The degree of discomfort varies with each person, depending on his/her pain threshold. Topical anesthesia may also be requested .
The Phases of Electrolysis Treatments
An antiseptic is applied to the skin to cleanse the area to be treated.
The probe is directed into the follicle opening, and care is taken to place it directly over the papilla. You do not feel the insertion. The skin is not broken.
Heat is radiated from the tip of the probe down onto and surrounding the papilla, destroying it.
The treated hair is then lifted out of the follicle with a forceps. The entire procedure takes less time than it does to tell you about it.
After a number of hairs are removed, the area is again wiped with an antiseptic, followed by an after treatment lotion.
Individualized post treatment instructions are given to ensure normal skin healing.
The area may be slightly reddened. However, this redness disappears rapidly, usually within 10-20 minutes.
The procedure can take as little as 10 minutes or up to an hour depending on the area treated.
The treated area may become pink or red within about 30 minutes of treatment? This may last from a few hours to several days.
